NFC means Near Field Communication. And as the name implies, it requires two NFC enabled devices to be in close contact ("near") to send information between each other. NFC is a technology that makes transferring data between two devices easy. It allows smartphones, laptops, and other NFC enabled device to share data with the NFC-enabled device.
NFC is useful to:
· Send photos and videos between devices
· As a digital wallet to make payment
Once another NFC-equipped device is within a 4-inch field range, a connection becomes established. It does not require any device discovery and pairing as you would see with Bluetooth. So, once two NFC-equipped devices are within this specified range, the two devices communicate, sending a prompt to its users.
And it is with this understanding that NFC is useful for making payments. All you have to do is place your NFC-equipped smartphone on the contactless reader in a store. A prompt to your digital wallet will come up, and you can confirm payment. It is also the same way that you can transfer videos and photos between two NFC-equipped devices.
How to Check if my Android has NFC support
There are two main ways you can check if your Android phone has NFC support. One way is to check remotely through the settings on the phone. Another way is to check using a third-party app.
To check if your Android is NFC-equipped, you can do so remotely by following these instructions.
· Go to the Settings on your Android smartphone.
· In settings, tap on Wireless and Networks.
· In the newly directed page, click on More .
· Under More , you can either see an option for NFC or not. If your phone is NFC-equipped, you will find NFC support. But if it is not NFC-equipped, there will be no such option there.
· If your device is NFC-equipped, you can choose to turn it on. By turning it on, you choose to allow data exchange when the phone comes within range with other NFC-equipped devices.
Many third-party applications check your Android phone for NFC support. It lets you know if your phone is NFC-equipped.
However, one of those apps which is popular and we have tested, and it worked just great is NFC Check by Tapkey . And you can get this for free on your Google Play Store.
Here is a list of all Android devices that are NFC-equipped. So, before you purchase that phone, if you are wondering if it is NFC-equipped, you should check this list out. Also, if you want to check if your current phone supports NFC, you can look for it too on this list.
