Discrete

/dɪˈskriːt/ adjective medium

Individually separate and distinct, not blended together with anything else.

The professor asked students to treat each variable as a discrete unit rather than part of one continuous scale.

Memory Trick

Notice the extra "e" splitting the two t's in dis-cre-t-e — a discrete item is likewise split apart from the rest. (Don't confuse it with "discreet," which means careful and private.)
